Kurumba Maldives Holidays 2016-2017

Luxury Maldives Holiday

Popular Kurumba offers quality at great value, with a convenient location and superb hospitality.

Kurumba was the very first Maldivian resort to open its ‘doors’, back in 1972. Its history and traditional style are evident but this compact village-like island also offers a host of more contemporary facilities.

The choice of dining here is superb – there’s a restaurant for every night of the week with a poolside café to spare. And the quality is excellent. It begins with the main restaurant, Vihamanaa, which serves up a variety of buffet dishes from hearty Italian to fiery curries. Of the seven speciality restaurants, Italian fine dining is perfectly executed at Duo (which will be renamed Isola in January), while Al Qasr (‘the Palace’) lives up to its name with decadent surrounds and delicious Middle Eastern flavours. And then there’s Thila, which extends out over the waters – this is the gourmet breakfast venue for higher room types and the ideal spot for seafood dinners.

Snorkelling on the house reef is just steps from the beach and diving packages are available to pre-book. Rooms sit in clusters around the network of paths, with traditional exteriors and more modern furnishings. Superior Rooms are in two-storey buildings with views of the coconut groves. Deluxe Rooms, though smaller, are ideal for couples seeking a more peaceful location. For direct beach views, opt for a Beachfront Deluxe Bungalow. There’s also a range of pool villas.

Restaurants & bars
Take a deep breath – there’s a lot of choice here. Vihamanaa is the main restaurant with buffet style dining. Sample freshly baked bread, omelettes and waffles at breakfast, while a variety of live cooking stations serve up everything from Indian to Italian dishes at dinner.

Thila is the contemporary breakfast venue for Garden Pool Villas and above – start the day as you mean to go on with a glass of sparkling wine, crêpes and eggs any way. By night, indulge on gourmet seafood at the ocean's edge.

The Hamakaze is housed in an overwater pavilion and serves mouthwatering sushi, sashimi and sizzling teppanyaki. The Middle Eastern restaurant, Al Qasr (‘the Palace’), lives up to its name, with a stately setting and the finest mezze and grilled meats.

Authenticity is the order of the day at the glittering Kurumba Mahal, serving kebabs and curries from the Royal Kitchens of Northern India, and La Cucina is a fine dining Italian delight conjuring up hearty dishes from its modern menu. Ming Court is the Chinese speciality restaurant offering up classics such as peking duck and sweet and sour sauces.

For daytime dining – or if you can resist the temptations of the other restaurants and simply want a light bite in the evening – the Kurumba Café is a relaxed al fresco venue by the pool. It also serves to-die-for ice-creams with traditional favourites as well as more creative flavours.

For drinks, head to the breezy Beach Bar with overwater deck or the on-the-beach Sand Bar. For something livelier, there’s regular karaoke at the Rendezvous Lounge.

Not all of the restaurants are open every day, so it’s worth checking in advance if you want to sample them all!

Childrens Club
Majaa Kids Club keeps the youngest guests entertained at Kurumba, with exciting games and educational activities with a Maldivian twist. It’s open for children age 4 to 12 from 9am-6pm daily. Children under 4 can attend with a parent, guardian or pre-arranged babysitter. Activities include bodu beru Maldivian dance lessons, drum lessons, coconut arts and crafts, fish feeding and sports. Indoors, they can try their hands at Dhivehi language practice, painting, puzzles, movies, foosball and lots more. Majaa is Maldivian for fun!

For Children
There’s the free Majaa kids’ club, plus 2 children’s pools, children’s menu in every restaurant, high chairs and strollers. If you’d prefer time to yourselves in the evening, babysitting can be arranged with a day’s notice*. Interconnecting rooms are available in Superior and Deluxe categories

Diving
There's a Scuba Diving School on the island.
